In what has become one of the most anticipated annual Christian gatherings in Ghana, Independence Square was filled to capacity on Good Friday as Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills led the Good Friday Miracle Service with thousands in attendance and many more tuning in online around the world. Among the attendees was the President of Ghana, who joined in commemorating the occasion alongside the congregation.

Prophet Dag Heward-Mills took the congregation through what he titled “The Story of the Cross of Jesus Christ.” Far from a routine Easter message, the sermon was a quiet but sobering reflection on sacrifice, suffering, and love. He explored the final hours of Jesus’ life with vivid clarity, his betrayal, trial, and crucifixion, to call listeners and congregation back to the core of their faith: that grace is not abstract but was paid for in full by Christ’s suffering.
“What Jesus did on the cross,” he preached, “wasn’t just a symbol. It was an actual substitution. He died so we could live.”
After the sermon, the service transitioned into a prayer and healing session. Individuals came forward with ailments—some chronic, others recent. Among those who testified was a woman who said she had been unable to walk unaided for months but rose to her feet after prayer.
Another young man shared that a heart condition he had struggled with since childhood had suddenly eased, allowing him to breathe freely for the first time in years. A mother in tears recounted how her child, previously unresponsive to sound, began reacting during the worship segment.
As the event drew to a close Prophet Dag Heward-Mills issued a final challenge: to remember the cross not only on Good Friday, but in our daily lives. “Christianity is not only about miracles,” he said, “it’s about remembering who died for you, and why.”
