Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).
It is a great thing when parents try their best to bring up their children in the fear of the Lord. But it is even greater when the godly upbringing extends to schools, and is not limited to home. This is because children spend more of their hours of activity at school than at home on a regular day. Also, most children are influenced at school more than at home. It is with this wisdom that Bishop Dag Heward-Mills’ Ministry began the St. Adelaide International Schools.
Formerly Lighthouse Christian Mission School, St. Adelaide runs with the vision of producing great intellectuals and professionals who know Christ and serve God in their Generation. The school provides a holistic education; a perfect balance of Mental, Physical and Spiritual Education.
St. Adelaide International has a family atmosphere, with small class sizes and friendly, dedicated Christian teachers. In such an atmosphere, the students build confidence and tend to be more creative, making learning fun and effective. The students are groomed to develop the skills they need to compete in the global marketplace to do well in life. Aside formal education and skills training, the school inculcates Christian values in the children. The world needs responsible, honest and sincere patriots and future leaders.
St. Adelaide International started in 1995 as a Nursery School with just two pupils at South Odorkor, Accra. It was started by Episcopal Sister Adelaide Heward-Mills, under the leadership of her husband Bishop Dag Heward-Mills. By the Grace of God, the School now runs a Nursery, Primary and Secondary division on three separate campuses in Ghana South Odorkor, Sampa Valley and Aburi-Jamaicaso.
Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase (Job 8:7). This verse is being fulfilled in St. Adelaide International Schools practically. Currently, there are over 600 students enrolled in the School from various foreign countries.
St. Adelaide International is certified to run the Cambridge International Curriculum. This curriculum sets a global standard for education and is recognised by universities and employers worldwide. It gives the students a great chance to succeed academically anywhere in the world.
The spiritual life of students is critical to the School. Children learn scriptures everyday; at assembly and during daily praise and worship service. The School teaches the children how to pray. They pray before each lesson, during snack breaks, at lunch, and during the praise and worship services. When someone is sick, both the children and the staff pray for the person. Same happens when someone celebrates his or her birthday. Each term, two church services are held for the entire school. The first is an anointing service with recognised Bishops, Reverend Ministers and Youth Pastors, and the second is a service with a designated Staff Member. Bible lessons are part of the school’s curriculum.
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children… (Deut. 6:6-7).
St. Adelaide International School delivers a Christ-centered education. This is a scripture-fulfilling school that is practically being a Shining Light to the Nations, as their motto exhorts them.
