On August 21st, 2021, the Finance & HR Community of the UD Lay World Movement held its inaugural event entitled “How to Land Your Perfect Job”.
Session one of this multi-part series focused on “How to Create a Stellar Resume/CV.” The session which had over 300 people in attendance kicked off with an amazing exhortation from the Convener of the Lay World Movement, Rev. Dr. Kodwo Orleans – Lindsay.
Rev Lindsay ministered powerfully from Genesis 46:31-47:1-4 … And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation? That ye shall say, Thy servants’ trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; … Joseph coached his brothers on how to “prepare a good resume” in their response to Pharaoh when he interviewed them, which propelled them into their dream job of shepherding and consequently their wealth in Goshen.
He emphasized the importance of seminars like these through which careers of members of the UD can be developed, and opportunities for them to expand their support for our beloved ministry through tithes, offerings and building of churches.
Participants had the privilege of hearing from HR professionals with over 100 years of combined experience. These professionals (Lp Harriet Darkwa, Karen Adjaye, Maureen Aryee, Lp Judith Ephraim, Lp Rosemary Hassaram, Lp Cordelia Akompong) shared their knowledge on the topic through the recipe-like presentation on the components of a stellar resume/CV. This was followed by a lively Question and Answer panel session where the panelists answered questions such as:
- Should I create a resume for every role I apply to?
- After you have your stellar CV what do you do?
- Should your resume be tailored to one job family or one can be used for all job searches?
- How to re-enter the job market after a long hiatus?
- The need to be honest with job descriptions when preparing a resume
