Matadi, the historic port city nestled along the banks of the Congo River, is known for its bridges, steep hills, and role as a vital trade hub in the Democratic Republic of Congo. But over the weekend of June 13th to 15th, it became the centre of a powerful spiritual encounter, as thousands gathered for the Healing Jesus Campaign led by Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills.
On the very first night, Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills preached a clear message centred on the unchanging nature of Jesus Christ, sharing that, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” He reminded the crowd that while human strength may fail and people may change, Jesus remains constant; His power, love, and blood have never lost their effectiveness.

Each message throughout the crusade was powerful. One night, he preached on the story of the Centurion’s servant from the book of Matthew, emphasising that there is no distance in the realm of the spirit and that Jesus can heal from afar. Another night, he spoke about the Rich Man and Lazarus from Luke’s Gospel, serving as a reminder of the realities of heaven and hell and urging the people to seek urgent salvation. Through relatable stories, Evangelist Dag illustrated Christ’s relentless love, likening it to a man who marries a paralysed woman, or one who pursues a sinful woman until her life is changed.

Following the word of God, miracles began to unfold before the eyes of the crowd. A young boy who had never spoken for 17 years suddenly said his first words. A woman previously paralysed by a stroke lifted her hand freely. A man who had suffered from epilepsy for 19 years was completely healed. People reported pain vanishing, vision being restored, and strength returning to their bodies. Many travelled from far distances, including Angola, just to be part of what God was doing—and they did not leave disappointed.

What happened in Matadi was more than a series of crusades; it was a move of God. As the Healing Jesus Campaign continues its journey through the Democratic Republic of Congo, one thing is clear: Matadi has been forever changed by the power and presence of Jesus Christ.
Matadi will not be the same. The message has been preached, miracles have been witnessed, and the name of Jesus has been lifted high.
