βA Christian minister is a person who in a peculiar sense is not his own; he is the servant of God, and therefore ought to be wholly devoted to Him. By entering into that sacred office he solemnly undertakes to be always engaged, as much as possible, in the Lord’s work, and not to choose his own pleasure, or employment, or pursue the ministry as something that is to subserve his own ends, or interests, or as a kind of by-work. He engages to go where God pleases, and to do, or endure what he sees fit to command, or call him to, in the exercise of his function. He virtually bids farewell to friends, pleasures, and comforts, and stands in readiness to endure the greatest sufferings in the work of his Lord, and Master.β
β William Carey, An Enquiry into the Obligations of Christians to Use All Means for the Conversion of the Heathens
The United Denomination Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD- OLGC) consecrated 19 new Bishops under the shepherding of the Presiding Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, on Wednesday, 29th December 2021. These are faithful men who have laboured in the church in many locations, and in various seasons of the life of the Ministry. Most of them joined the church as students and rose through the ranks over many decades to date. What building blocks! What precious gems!
The harvest truly is plenteous, hence the need for many labourers to oversee the wide expanse of work from Ghana – (Asamankese, Akim Oda, Ejura, Navrongo, Assin Fosu, Cape Coast, Dunkwa-on-Offin, Wa, Nkawkaw, Ayawaso, Agbogba,) to Uganda –(Kampala), through Guinea, and Kenya – (Nairobi, Kasarani), to Rwanda – (Kigali), and even to the uttermost parts of the earth, in the Pacific region of Papua New Guinea – (Port Moresby), and Fiji – (Suva).
Ranging from 15 to 33 long years of service and faithfulness in the Ministry, indeed, these newly consecrated Bishops are like Timothys who are being charged to commit to faithful men the same things they have heard from their Shepherd, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills. 2 Timothy 2:2. They have all proven themselves by building great Congregations and massive Church Buildings. Worthy of mention is Bishop Edward Cofie in Guinea Conakry, who joined the church at the tender age of 10, and under the tutelage of Bishop Oko Bortei-Doku has remained faithful until his elevation to the high office of a Bishop.
The Prophet prayed passionately for three most precious things for the new Bishops and what would give them staying power all the way to the very end: The Grace of God, The Humility of Jesus Christ, The Love of God/The Love for God.
Afterwards, they were adorned beautifully in their full regalia by Archbishop Kwasi Ampofo and Archbishop Patrick Bruce.
