At Calvary Church, Malaysia, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills preached a stirring message titled “Many Are Called”, taking his text from Matthew 22:14: “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The sermon highlighted the truth that God calls many people, not just a chosen few. According to Bishop, the real issue is not God’s willingness to call, but whether believers will respond and remain faithful. “God calls many people. The problem is that many do not answer, or they do not continue in the calling,” he said.
Bishop Heward-Mills explained that God calls His people in different ways:
- Through Desire — referring to 1 Timothy 3:1, he noted that a sincere desire to serve God is often a sign of His calling.
- Through Convictions — citing 1 Corinthians 9:16, he described the strong inward compulsion to serve as evidence of God’s hand on a life.
- Through Dreams and Visions — he reminded the congregation that God often speaks through dreams, just as He did with biblical figures such as Joseph.
He emphasised that God not only calls people to believe but also to be fruitful in His kingdom. Answering the call, he said, involves service, faithfulness, and the willingness to labour in God’s house.
Bishop Dag concluded by encouraging believers not to dismiss God’s call on their lives. “God’s calling is not reserved for a few special people,” he declared. “It is for everyone who desires to serve and is ready to answer.”
